Welcome
To Our Website Dedicated To Route 66 ! This website
has been created by two high school students within the
framework of the Framed Personnals Works (TPE); it is
suggested as a "final work". Its aim is to
retrace the different points that we studied within our
report on, as you could have guessed, Route 66.
On our website, you will able able to find the main and
the most important information about the mythical Main
Street Of America, answering to the problem we asked
ourselves : What allow us to say that the borders that separate
the different states crossed by Route 66 are more than
just political and administrative borders ?
We divided the contents in three so
it makes the nagivation easier. The first point is the
geography of the road, including a short presentation of
it, the differents states crossing it and the main
cities on the Road. The second major point is the
history of Route 66. Here, you will find listed the
major events related to the road. Cultures of the states
that crosses the road constitute the third part of our
contents. There, we listed under different subjects -
food, parties, traditions, the population and the myth -
what makes Route 66, and the states crossing it, so
special. Finally, you also will able to read a testimony
of the leader of the Preservation Foundation of
California, that we approached to collect his feelings
and his opinions on the Mother Road.
You will find beneath on this page previews of the
different explanatory comments you can read in their
entirety by clicking on the links on the left menu.
So, here we are, I think everthing has been said. So
enjoy your stay, and as the guys from Route 66 says it :

Its Geography

The
Road, Its States, Its Cities
|

John
Steinbeck was simply calling her "The Mother
Road". For many American people, it is "The
Main Street Of Americia".
Strolling on Route 66 is really similar to a nostalgic
walk whithin the contemporary North American history. It
is also a wonderfull tourist route who enables the
travelers to experience
other states than those in the West and the East coasts
of this huge continent.
From its
very first debute, the Highway 66 became popular; thanks
to its course and to the diversity of the people who
populated it, it also forged itself a strong reputation
of a difficult, wide a soon a mythical
road...

Route
66 did not become a myth and did not acquire the
popularity it has today overnight. Find out what made it
go from a simple road to the Histroic Route 66 !
U.S. Highway 66, popularly known as "Route 66"
is significant as the first all-weather highway linking
Chicago to Los Angeles. What sets this segment of
national highway apart from its contemporaries is that
it remains the shortest, year-round route between
Chicago and Los Angeles by more than 200 miles, which
made Route 66 popular among thousands of motorists who
drove west insubsequent decades.
Let's retrace its history from 1925, its real beginnig,
to nowadays.

Its Cultures
|
The
People, The Traditions, The Myth
|
|
Route
66 includes eight states and some of them are really
different from each other. The cultures may not be the
same all over the United States of America. That's why
taking a ride on Route 66 is a real disorientation : you
travel from state to state without seing the same kinds
of people, the same traditions, etc. "The Mother
Road" includes a incredible mix of cultures,
especially with Los Angeles which is the multicural city
above all else.
We chose to dwell on three points to study in detail the
different cultures crossed by the Road : food, parties, traditions,
population. Finally, you will see how and why we can
conclude that Route 66 has become a real myth, truly a
legend.

Association's
Testimony And More
|

At this
spot of our ride, discover an incredibly affluent
testimony from a member of the Route 66 Preservation
Association (The California Route
66 Preservation Foundation) who tells about the road,
what it represents for the American people, for himself,
what is fighting against by his assocition...
For him, "if we are not successful in preserving
and marketing Route 66 then all the other roads will
fail in their efforts too. I like to say that Route 66
is the Queen of the Ball but she has a lot of sisters,
brothers, aunts and uncles.
" You'll find more of his feeling about the Road in
the "Testimony" section.

last, as our journey among the "Roadies" comes
to an end, we referred you all the books, works and
websites that help us throughout this report on Route
66, to set it up; a report that would have been nothing
with all this major works, and also a report that had
been an incredible experience for both of us.
